IDF Appeal to the European Draughts Confederation (EDC) and to the National Federations of European Countries

The International Draughts Federation (IDF) appealed to the European Draughts Confederation (EDC) and to the national federations of European countries. The letter is HERE

Text of the appeal:

Dear colleagues!

Recently, some sources have reported that a certain “European Draughts-64 Championship (Russian/Brazilian)” will be held in Estonia in 2025. In this regard, the International Draughts Federation (IDF) informs you of the following.

The European Draughts-64 Championships among men and women will be held in Turkey (Kemer) from April 11 to 20, 2025. The competitions will traditionally be held at a high level in the Russian and Brazilian versions of the game. The prize fund will be more than 25,000 euros. At the moment, representatives of 16 countries have confirmed their participation.

Any other “European Draughts-64 Championships” are illegitimate. Attempts to organize them will be perceived as an attempt to split the international draughts movement. The IDF has repeatedly stated its position on this issue: our strength is in the unity of draughts, therefore athletes who took part in such starts will no longer be able to compete in IDF competitions.

In addition, the International Draughts Federation (IDF) has exclusive rights to use player ratings, their titles, opening draw tables, the tournament draw computer program and other related technical resources. Their use by third-party organizations or individuals without the permission of the IDF is illegal.

The European Draughts Confederation (EDC) has always had a balanced position, did not participate in the split imposed by the FMJD leadership, and has never held adult and youth European Draughts-64 Championships. We hope that this policy will be continued in this difficult time for the entire world of sports.

At the same time, we welcome the desire of organizers from different countries to hold competitions of the highest level. Unfortunately, the current political situation in the world does not allow us to organize draughts-64 tournaments in Estonia, Italy, Portugal and other wonderful draughts countries, as in the recent past. However, we are confident that peace will come to Europe in the near future, and we will all work together again for the benefit of our favorite game.
