The UAE hosted its first international draughts-64 competition.

The International Draughts Federation (IDF) in accordance with the Calendar of the IDF competitions in 2026 held the first international draughts-64 competition in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The competition was held in the Classic game discipline.

The winners and prize-winners among men and women, and junior-boys and junior-girls under 27, were determined based on the results of the competition.
World champions Gavril Kolesov (men), Sandaara Aprosimova (women), Denis Filatov (junior-boys under 27), and Anastasiia Arkhangelskaia (junior-girls under 27) won the Competition.

21-01-2026 The international draughts-64 competition in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, was successfully completed. Twelve world champions in various disciplines participated in the competition.

15-01-2026 The International Draughts-64 Competition “UAE-2026” started today at the Golden Sands Hotel&Residences in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Eighteen athletes from Russia, Israel and Belgium are participating, including 12 world champions in various disciplines.

The competition is held in the Classic game discipline, according to the Swiss system in 7 rounds, using a two-game micro-match system with the draw of moves and positions according to the official IDF table (780 positions), which is mandatory in both games of the micro-match.

22-12-2025 The International Draughts Federation (IDF) in accordance with the Calendar of the IDF competitions in 2026 holds the first international draughts-64 competition in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Competition Regulations.

1. Venue and dates

 Venue: Golden Sands Hotel & Residences.
Address: Sahara Center, Al Nahda Street 115, Sharjah, UAE.
Date: January 14 (arrival day) to January 21 (departure day), 2026.
The Credentials Committee will work on January 14 from 18.00 to 20.00.

2. Competition program and participants.

Open tournament will be held with separate standings for men and women, junior-boys and junior-girls (ages 27 and under).
The competition will be held in the Classic game discipline.

3. Requirements for competition participants.

Players from countries – members of the International Draughts Federation of the corresponding age categories are allowed to participate in the competition who submitted an application for participation in a timely manner, registered within the established deadlines and paid the tournament fee.

The number of participants representing a country is not limited.

Participants are obliged to comply with the Rules and Regulations of the competition.
Participants are obliged to comply with the Dress Code.

Participants must be present at the opening and closing ceremony of the competition.
In case of absence the closing ceremony, participants lose all official awards. Awards will not be sent or transferred.

All participants must have medical insurance for the period of competition.

4. Tournament regulations

Competitions are held according the IDF Rules of the Game and Competition Regulations.
Competitions are personal.
Competitions are held according to the system of micro-matches from two games.
The system of competition is Swiss in 7-9 rounds.
Competitions are held with the drawing of lots for moves and positions according to the official IDF table (780 positions), mandatory in both games of the micro-match.

5. Determination of the winners

The places of the participants are determined by the highest sum of points scored. In case of equality of points for two or more participants, additional criteria are established by the panel of arbiters in accordance with the Competition Regulations.

Based on the results of the competition, winners and prize-winners are determined among men and women; juniors (boys and girls) up to 27 years old.

6. Awards

In each age category, participants who take 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are awarded medals and diplomas.
The prize fund of the competition will be announced by the organizers at the opening of the competition.

7. Finances.

All expenses of participants, coaches, and accompanying persons for travel, accommodation and meals, payment of tournament fees and other expenses related to competition participation are paid by the sending organizations or the participants themselves.

The expenses for organizing and holding the events are paid by the Organizing Committee.

Tournament Fees

The tournament fee for each participant is $30.
Tournament fees must be paid in cash to the Credentials Committee on the day of registration, January 14, 2026.
