The Uganda National Individual Open Championship (Brazilian draughts) took place on 7th May 2017 in Giraffe View, Fort Portal. 18 players from different regions of the country took part in the competition. It was Rapid with a time control of 5 min + 3 sec. The winner of the tournament became the bronze medalist of the African championship 2016 in the rapid Isaac Bafaki. Baker Nyanzi took second place. Last year’s champion Patrick Umala was on the third line of the standings. The first five players received cash prizes.
According to the information of Dan Isabirye, Technical Director of the Uganda Draughts Federation, the first Uganda Women’s Championship will be held on May 21 in preparation for the World Championship 2017.
