1st Africa University Mind Sports Championship was held on November 28-29

The Africa University Sports Federation (FASU) organized and conducted the 1st Africa University Mind Sports Championship (Bridge, Draughts and Chess). Competitions were held online 28th and 29th November 2020. The Draughts championship was held with the support of the International Draughts Federation (IDF). See the results.

29-11-2020 Today, on the online platform https://www.playelephant.com/, the Men draughts championship was held in the framework of the 1st Africa University Mind Sports Championship. The championship was attended by representatives of Busitema and Makerere University from Uganda, Malawi and Zimbabwe University.

The winners and prize-winners of the Men championship were:

Enock Makoka Banda (Malawi)

Bondo Humble (Malawi)

Mahande Xavier (Busitema)

 

The team classification was determined among four universities.

26-11-2020 On November 22 and 26, trial tournaments were held on the online platform https://www.playelephant.com/ to prepare for the 1st African Universities Drafts Championship.

17-11-2020 The Africa University Sports Federation (FASU) organizes and conducts the 1st Africa University Mind Sports Championship (Bridge, Draughts and Chess). Competitions will be held online from 28th to 29th November 2020. The Draughts championship will be held with the support of the International Draughts Federation (IDF).

The event will be hosted on the https://www.playelephant.com platform.

There will be two individual separate competitions for men and women.

The Ladies championship will be played on Saturday 28th November 2020 starting at 11.00 a.m. (Nairobi time)
The Men championship will be played on Sunday 29th November 2020 starting at 11.00 a.m. (Nairobi time).

Each university will present a maximum of 6 men and 6 female players.
The best 4 players among men and 4 among women for each university will be used to rank the universities.

The type of draughts will be pool checkers.

Each championship will be played on a Swiss System in 9 rounds. Each round will consist of two games. The time control for each game for a player will be 5 minutes and 3 seconds per move.

A trial tournament will be held on https://www.playelephant.com on 22nd November 2020 at 11.00 am (Nairobi time) for the players to accustom to playing tournaments on the platform.

A trial tournament will be played on a Swiss System in 7 rounds. Each round will consist of two games.
The time control for each game for a player will be 5 minutes and 3 seconds per move.

Players will be required to register on the playelephant.com platform before the actual date of the tournament.

The player card at https://www.playelephant.com must contain:

– player name and surname as in the passport
– country and city of residence
– official title (if any)

All required data must be filled in. The data must be valid.

During the registration process, the player creates his nickname, which will be used for participation in the championship and other games on the https://www.playelephant.com platform.

All the players should register in their universities using the excel form.

On the day of the tournament, participants need to go to the https://www.playelephant.com 30 minutes before the start of the tournament, press the login button, enter the tournament link, register to the tournament and wait for the start.

To register for the tournament, click on the word ‘Register’ (it is highlighted in green) and follow the instructions. The platform will indicate that you have successfully registered upon registration.

Once a tournament has started, the player should not leave the platform until the end of tournament; pairing for the next round is done automatically after all the games in a running round are finished.
