The World Draughts-64 Championships among men and women was held in Russia

The World Draughts-64 Championship among men and women completed. The Championship was held from September 5 to 15, 2024 in Russia, in the Moscow region. The World Championship was held in three disciplines –  Blitz, Rapid and Classic game.

Athletes from 27 countries from 4 continents – Asia, Africa, Europe and America took part in the competition.

The prize fund was 5,100,000 rubles (equivalent to 57,000 US dollars).

20-09-2024 The World Draughts-64 Championship among men and women has been successfully completed!

Roman Shchukin and Sandaara Aprosimova became world champions in the discipline Blitz game!
Ihar Mikhalchenka and Anastasia Arkhangelskaia became world champions in the discipline Rapid game!
Nikolai Struchkov and Tunaara Fedorova became world champions in the discipline Classic game!

More than 90 athletes from 27 countries from Asia, Africa, Europe and Pan America took part in all disciplines of this grand event! Among them were 28 international grandmasters.

The following athletes competed for the championship awards: 2022 World Champion Andrei Valyuk (Belarus), 2023 European Champion Roman Shchukin (Russia), 2024 Asian Champion Laziz Muraliev (Uzbekistan), 2023 African Champion William Chinzewe (Zambia), Pan American Champion Wayne Reid (Jamaica), multiple world champions Gavril Kolesov, Nikolai Struchkov (All Russia), Ihar Mikhalchenka (Belarus) and many other strongest athletes in the world.

The World Championship was held at a high level in the “PSB Patriot” Hotel Cosmos Hotels.

All conditions for the game and rest were created for the participants – excellent accommodation and food, a SPA complex accessible at any time, a large park area open to the public, where everyone could visit the museums and temple complex. A bus excursion to Moscow with a visit to Red Square was organized.

As for the actual holding of the World Championship – in addition to the traditional two-stage system of holding competitions, many things took place for the first time.

For the first time, the updated IDF table of draws of moves and positions (780 positions) was used in the World Championship among men.

For the first time, a new program for draws of tournaments, developed in Russia (developer A. Zakharov, Samara), was used in international IDF competitions. Program will become the official program for holding draws of IDF tournaments in the future.

For the first time, games were broadcast on the idDraughts platform. It was possible to follow the games and root for the participants of the World Championship online thanks to idDraughts technology, an innovative solution for recognizing and broadcasting draughts games, which has no analogues in the world.

 

Daily online reviews of the games were conducted by grandmasters Nikita Slavyanov (blitz and rapid) and Dmitry Tsinman (classic).

The prize fund of the world championship was increased and amounted to 5,100,000 rubles (equivalent to 57,000 US dollars).

In addition, sponsors and organizers presented prizes and awards in various nominations.

All participants received memorable gifts, including souvenir medals of the world championship.

All participants will remember the grand opening and closing of the world championship, the exciting, intense struggle on the draughts fields, daily communication and meetings on draughts topics and more!

Based on the results of the world championship, players will be awarded new IDF titles in accordance with the IDF Rules for assigning titles.

06-09-2024 Today, at 14:00, the PSB Patriot Cosmos Hotels hosted the grand opening of the World Draughts-64 Championship among men and women.

Before the opening of the World Championship, an entertainment program was held for guests and spectators.

At the opening, the participants of the World Championship were congratulated by officials:

President of the International Draughts Federation Vladimir Langin
President of the Russian Draughts Federation Anatolii Nikitin
State Duma Deputy Gennadii Semigin
and other representatives of various organizations.

President of the International Draughts Federation Vladimir Langin and the 2022 World Champion Andrey Valiuk made the first symbolic moves, giving the start to the 2024 World Championship.

As part of the opening of the competition, a draughts “Gala Match of Leaders” was held for heads of the largest companies, media personalities of Russia, representatives of government agencies and corporations.
