1st Stage of World Cup 2019 – International competition “Georgia-2019”

International Draughts Federation (IDF) in accordance with the Calendar of competitions in 2019 held from 23 to 31 March 2019 in Tbilisi (Georgia) 1st Stage of World Cup 2019 in draughts-64 – International competition “Georgia-2019”. Competitions were held in three programs: Blitz, Rapid and Classic.

International master Dmitrii Melnikov won Blitz and Classic program. International master Andrei Gnelitsky won Rapid. See results.

30-03-2019 The 1st Stage of the World Cup in draughts-64 2019 has been completed. Representatives of 8 countries took part in all programs of the competition. At the closing ceremony, the President of the International Draughts Federation, the leaders of the United Draughts Federation of Georgia, the Draughts Federation of Tbilisi and the representative of the Ministry of Sport and Youth of Georgia congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the competition and held the awards ceremony. Following the results of successful performances in IDF competitions, Georgian players Alexander Beruashvili and Djumber Berishvili received international titles IDF Master.

During the competition, the President of the International Draughts Federation (IDF) Vladimir Langin met with the Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth of Georgia, at which issues of cooperation and development of draughts in Georgia were discussed.


30-03-2019 The international master Dmitrii Melnikov won the classic program with a score of 11 points from 14. The Georgian player Levan Kiknadze took second place. He lost to Melnikov by the coefficient. International master Andrey Gnelitsky with 10 points took third place.

Anna Filipenko (Russia) became the best among women.

Maksim Kozlovsky (Russia) was the best among youth, Alexander Beruashvili (Georgia) was the best among veterans.


28-03-2019 After the Rapid program, the Classic program of the 1st Stage of the World Cup started. Competitions are held on the Swiss system in 7 rounds, by the system of micro-matches from 2 games with a draw of moves and positions according to the official table, time control 30′ + 10″. 22 players from 5 countries took part in competition.

After 5 rounds, international masters Dmitry Melnikov, Andrey Gnelitsky (both Russia) and IDF master Levan Kiknadze (Georgia) lead with 8 points.


25-03-2019 Rapid program of the 1st Stage of the World Cup was held today. Competitions were held on the Brazilian version of draughts-64, on the Swiss system in 7 rounds, on the system of micro-matches from 2 games with a draw of moves and positions according to the official table for Brazilian draughts, time control 5′ + 3″. 32 players from 7 countries took part in competition.

The winner of Rapid program with a score of 12 points from 14 was international master Andrei Gnelitsky. International master Dmitry Ganopolsky with a score of 11 points was on second place. 10 points and third place took international master Dmitry Melnikov.

Lia Kazarashvili (Georgia) became the best among women for the first time at the Stages of World Cup.

Maksim Kozlovsky (Russia) was the best among youth, Alexander Beruashvili (Georgia) was the best among veterans.


24-03-2019 After the opening ceremony, the Blitz program of the 1st Stage of the World Cup in draughts-64 was held. Competitions were held on the Swiss system in 9 rounds, on the system of micro-matches from 2 games with a draw of moves and positions according to the official table, time control 3′ + 2″. 32 players from 7 countries took part in competition.

The winner of the Blitz program with a score of 15 points from 18 became the international master Dmitrii Melnikov. The international master Andrei Gnelitsky with 14 points took second place. IDF master Kirill Dublin with a score of 13 points ranked third in the standings. This is the first major success of a young player at competitions of this level.

IDF master Jamze Tsivtsivadze (Georgia) was the best among women.

Maksim Kozlovsky (Russia) was the best among youth, Alexander Beruashvili (Georgia) was the best among veterans.


24-03-2019 The 1st Stage of the World Cup in draughts-64 2019 – International competition “Georgia-2019” started today in Tbilisi. It opens the World Cup 2019, 5 stages of which are planned in Georgia, Italy, Estonia, Bulgaria and Portugal.

The 1st Stage of the World Cup 2019 is entrusted to Tbilisi thanks to the successful holding of the European Draughts-64 Championship among men and women 2016, the World Cup stage 2017 and the World Cup final 2018.

Many well-known players, winners and prize-winners of the World Cup, world championships and major international tournaments gathered in Tbilisi, including international masters Dmitry Ganopolsky (Israel), Andrei Gnelitsky and Dmitry Melnikov (Russia), winners of the 2018 World Cup among women Svetlana Streltsova and Anna Filipenko (Russia), winners and prize-winners of the national championships Janis Farnests (Latvia), Nshan Alaverdyan and Albert Poghosyan (Armenia). The strongest Georgian players will take part in the competition, such as Levan Kiknadze, Alexander Beruashvili, Djumber Berishvili, winner and prize-winner of the programs of the 2018 World Cup final among women Iamze Tsivtsivadze; as well as a large delegation of Armenian players.

The opening of the competition was held at 12.00. The participants of the competition were greeted by the President of the International Draughts Federation (IDF) Vladimir Langin, the leaders of the United Draughts Federation of Georgia Djumber Berishvili and the Tbilisi Draughts Federation Levan Kiknadze. Vladimir Langin and Levan Kiknadze launched the World Cup, making symbolic first moves.


08-01-2019 Information about competition

International Draughts Federation IDF in accordance with the calendar of the competitions in 2019 holds in Tbilisi (Georgia) following events in draughts-64:

– Training events, 20 – 22 March 2019;
– 1 st Stage of World Cup 2019 in draughts-64 – International competition “Georgia-2019”, 23 – 31 March 2019.

Venue and accommodation of participants is in the Hotel Kalasi at Kote Afkhazi str. 25, 0105, Tbilisi (Georgia).

Competitions will be held in three programs: Blitz, Rapid and Classic.

System of all programs is Swiss, by the system of micro-matches consist of two games with the drawing according to the official table (745 positions), obligatory in both games of micro-match.

In each program winners among men, women, juniors up to 20 years (born in 2000 and younger) and veterans are determined.

Participants of 1st Stage of World Cup get points in the overall standing of the World Cup in accordance with the Regulations of the World Cup 2019 in draughts-64.

Tournament fee for participation is 50 Euro; for Georgian players – 30 Euro.
Participants who have paid the tournament fee are allowed to participate in all three programs.
