The National Rapid Championship of Zambia (pool checkers) was held in the capital of Zambia, Lusaka from 12 to 14 May. 21 player took part in the competition. Players were divided into 3 subgroups A, B and C, then they were distributed according to occupied places in the preliminary stage and continued the struggle for victory in the championship.

Champion of Zambia 2017 in Rapid became the silver prize-winner of the first African championship 2016 in Rapid Elias Munkondia. Kennedy Phiri took second place and Peter Mulenga is on the third place. (more…)

Lithuanian Team Championship  in draughts-64 was held in Alutis from 13 to 14 May. Six teams took part in the competition. Competitions were held with a draw of moves and positions (table for 745 positions).

The first place took team “Verdene” (Vilnius), which won all the matches. Team was headed by world champion in Rapid, international grandmaster Arunas Norvayshas. The composition of the team included such well-known players as international master Vilius Alekhnavicius and IDF master Anri Plaksij. (more…)

The Uganda National Individual Open Championship (Brazilian draughts) took place on 7^th May 2017 in Giraffe View, Fort Portal. 18 players from different regions of the country took part in the competition. It was Rapid with a time control of 5 min + 3 sec. The winner of the tournament became the bronze medalist of the African championship 2016 in the rapid Isaac Bafaki. Baker Nyanzi took second place. Last year’s champion Patrick Umala was on the third line of the standings. The first five players received cash prizes.

According to the information of Dan Isabirye, Technical Director of the Uganda Draughts Federation, the first Uganda Women’s Championship will be held on May 21 in preparation for the World Championship 2017. (more…)

The first French championship in the international (Russian) version of draughts-64 was held 29th and 30th April in the city of ROCHEFORT-sur-Mer. The championship was the qualifier for the European Championship 2018. Champion of France became the master of sports Félix VERBOUK. The IDF master Franck LAURENT took second place and Gilles TAILLANDIER is on third place. Guillaume BERTRAND is the best youth.

Asian Championships in draughts-64, draughts-100, and Turkish draughts was held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from 15 to 28 April 2017. Asian Championship in draughts-64 are held from 15 to 21 April. Competitions was held by Asian Draughts Confederation and the Uzbekistan Draughts Federation under the auspices of the International Draughts Federation IDF. (more…)

The Trust Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the National Broadcasting Company Sakha and the Federation of Draughts of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) on April 1, 2017, within the framework of a large TV and radio marathon “SPRING on the NVK” organize and hold a match in Russian draughts between the 7-time World Champion Gavril Kolesov and 4-time World Champion Nikolay Struchkov.
